My Tips to Get More Out of Your Massage

#5: Fall asleep? So many people are worried about falling asleep and missing out on the experience. But here’s a newsflash—you don’t have to be awake to experience the full effects of the session. In fact, many times you’ll get a better massage if you doze off. Why? While sleeping, your body is relaxed and your muscles surrender more easily to the massage. So if you feel like you could doze off, don’t fight it—just let it happen. Massage therapists take it as a compliment!

#4: Breathing. Don’t stop and hold your breath if you feel pain. Breathe through it. Deep inhales and exhales can help manage any painful spots we discover. It also brings more oxygen into your bloodstream and helps you relax. Breathe in through the nose and out through the mouth in nice, big dramatic breaths. No, you won’t sound silly and I won’t laugh at you. 🙂

#3: A Big Sigh. Speaking of sounding silly (even though it’s not!), one of the best tips I have to release some daily stresses is to get on the massage table and take deep inhales through your nose, hold for a moment, then exhale through your mouth with a big, dramatic sigh. This is a great thing to do to prepare for your session before I enter the massage room. It’s also wonderful to do at night as a way to help you doze off more peacefully.

#2: Talking is OK, but so is being silent. It is entirely normal to be silent for your full session, chat for the full session, or fall anywhere in between. But as a tip, the best way to get the maximum benefit from your session is to just get lost in your own breath. Even if you’re normally a chatter, try a silent session every so often. It’ll make a big different in your experience.

And my #1 tip for getting the most from your massage sessions:

#1: Don’t help. When you lift your arm or turn your head for me, you’re activating the muscles I’m trying to relax for you, thereby reversing the work. Do your best to surrender to the session. Let me do the work.

Next newsletter I’ll talk about the difference between deep pressure and deep tissue, and why massage doesn’t need to hurt to be beneficial.

Until next time!

Price Changes in October 2017

I’d like to thank you for being a client of BODHI Massage.

When I started BODHI Massage, I vowed to offer fair and affordable rates for excellent service. I take changes very seriously, which is why prices haven’t changed since my only increase in April 2014, almost 3 ½ years ago.

Due to increasing expenses on my end, I need to make adjustments to my rates beginning October 1, 2017.

My new rates will be, as follows:

30 Minute Sessions – Increase from $40 to $48
45 Minute Sessions – Increase from $50 to $58
60 Minute Sessions – Increase from $60 to $68
75 Minute Sessions – Increase from $70 to $78
90 Minute Sessions – Increase from $80 to $88
50 Minute Senior Discount – Base increase from $45 to $50

Going forward, in order to squash the need for large price changes in the future, beginning January 2019, all prices will rise annually by $1.

This new structure will allow future increases to be more comfortable, and still remain fair and competitive for both of us.

Thank you for understanding the need to make these changes. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to bring them to my attention.

And a very special THANK YOU for seeing me for your wellness needs. I hope to continue doing that for quite some time.

Updated availability and new service

Spring is right around the corner!

As we move closer to officially welcoming spring, I am adding new hours to accommodate requests for more daytime availability.

Beginning in April, Tuesdays will alternate between 1:00pm-10:00pm one week, and 6:00pm-10:00pm the next. These changes are already in the scheduling system, and will appear when you go to schedule your appointments.

ALSO, I will be offering a much-requested new service—45 minute massage sessions.

Many clients who come in frequently for specific issues are finding that the 30 minute sessions are too short, but also feel a 60 minute is too long. Hopefully the 45 minute length will be just right. #Goldilocks

I’d also like to remind you that if you’d like to set up recurring appointments—so you always have the days and times that work best for you—please feel free to discuss it with me after your next appointment. It’s very simple to do, and still allows you the flexibility to move things around, if need be.

It’s a nice way to reserve your spot once, and never have to worry about it changing.

As always, thank you for supporting me. If there is ever anything I can do to improve your sessions, please let me know.

I look forward to seeing you soon!
